Principal Memo – 30th August 2024

Prayer

Pope Francis: “Every family needs a father — a father who shares in his family’s joy and pain, hands down wisdom to his children, and offers them firm guidance and love.”

Prayer

God our Father,
In your wisdom and love you have created us and called us your own. Bless our fathers.
In moments of joy, rejoice with them. In times of struggle, give them your courage and perseverance. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honour and appreciate them always with a spirit of profound respect. May the example and prayer of St. Joseph inspire them to live their vocation with courage.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Week 7

LIFE to the Full!

Canberra/ Melbourne Tour 2024

Our Year 9/10 students and staff had an incredible time in Canberra and Melbourne over the last week. It was our first opportunity to travel post-COVID, and the feedback from all involved has been extremely positive. The College is reviewing the 2025 calendar, and more information will be available to parents regarding future tours.

Year 12 Outdoor Education

Last week, our Year 12 Outdoor Education students embarked on their final expedition riding sections of the Munda Biddi Trail. I was in our South West at a Conference and had the pleasure of visiting the students as they road across the picturesque North Dandalup Dam. ODE enhances our students’ critical thinking and reflection skills and improves their mental and physical health. The College is proud of the achievements of our Year 12s, who have engaged with the course for over three years. We hope they continue to enjoy and explore the outdoors in 2025 and beyond.

Dance Showcase

A reminder that final tickets are on sale for our Dance Showcase next Friday September 6. With over 200 students from Junior, Middle and Senior School performing, it is sure to be a memorable night. Tickets can be purchased here https://www.trybooking.com/CTMXI

Staffing

Mrs Cathy Bryne had her final week as Kindy H Teacher at the College. I had the opportunity to meet with Cathy this week and thanked her for the time and care she gave her students. Mrs Byrne is looking forward to spending more time as a Grandmother. Mrs Kerry Krause will return to the College on Monday and take the Kindy H class for the remainder of the year.  Please join me in welcoming Mrs Krause back to the College.

Mrs Tammy Walker also finishes her time at the College this week. Mrs Walker has been an amazing support for our Students with Disabilities. We wish her all the very best.

Fathers Day

Thank you to our dedicated Friends of Holy Cross parents who have been out every morning this week selling items to our students for their Father and Father figures to enjoy on Sunday. It was great to see many of Dads at our Fathers Day Liturgy and Breakfast on Tuesday morning!

To all the dads and father figures in our community, Happy Father’s Day for Sunday! I hope all the members of our community have the opportunity to engage with the father figures in their lives on Sunday.

Gospel Challenge

This week’s Gospel from Mark challenges us not to focus solely on the human rituals and laws that have developed over time. It reminds us to not forget about God and his forgiving power.

The challenge for this week is to remove ourselves from ‘unclean’ thoughts and actions and speak with the kindness and love that God demonstrated to us by his son, Jesus Christ.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kind regards

Albert Borrello
