Prayer – Lent

Ever faithful God, Your Beloved Son went willingly into the desert, to bring us out of loneliness into the companionship of your love. Indeed, you await us in the wilderness of our lives.

Give us the courage to believe that your kingdom has indeed come near to us; to leave behind our ‘old’ ways and embrace new freedom; to hope in the promise of the life that never ends; to repent and believe in the good news.

May our lives proclaim your dream for all: to live in the light of peace and harmony.

We pray in the name of Jesus, the Light of the World, and in the power of your Enlightening Spirit – One God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Lent 2025

I invite all members of our community to join us in embracing this year’s Lenten theme, “Let us journey together in hope,” inspired by Pope Francis’ message. This theme encourages us to reflect on our spiritual pilgrimage, and to consider how we can walk together in faith and hope.

Pope Francis reminds us that Lent is a time for conversion and renewal, a period to open our hearts to God’s grace and to support one another as a community. He calls us to reflect on our lives, to move beyond our comfort zones, and to empathise with those who are marginalised or in need.

As parents and caregivers, you play a crucial role in guiding children through this spiritual journey. Here are a few ways you can engage with the Lenten theme as a family:

  1. Acts of Kindness: Encourage your children to perform acts of kindness and service, fostering a spirit of compassion and empathy.
  1. Community Involvement: Participate in parish activities and Lenten services, reinforcing the sense of journeying together as a faith community.

May this Lenten season be a time of profound spiritual renewal for you and your family.

Project Compassion – 2025 Launch

On Tuesday we were honoured to have launched the 2025 Caritas Project Compassion initiative for Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). This year’s theme, “Unite Against Poverty,” resonates deeply with our mission to foster compassion and social justice.

Our student leaders did a wonderful job engaging their peers across Western Australia. Special thanks to our dedicated staff, especially the IT team, for their invaluable support.

Together, let’s continue to make a positive impact with our student led initiatives for Project Compassion!

LIFE to the Full!

At Holy Cross College, we are excited to see our vision of LIFE to the full coming to fruition through the plethora of enrichment activities our students have been accessing in 2025. It is wonderful to witness the Junior School engaging enthusiastically with the new Orienteering and Running Clubs, fostering a love for outdoor activities and physical fitness.

Our Swim Training sessions have seen strong student participation, reflecting their dedication and commitment to personal best. Meanwhile, our Arts Department has been bustling with activity as they prepare for the highly anticipated production of The Little Mermaid. Additionally, our Choir has grown impressively, now boasting nearly 100 members, showcasing the vibrant musical talent within our community and building connections across our Pre-K to 12 campus.

Ellenbrook Meals is back up and running with students and staff serving our community each Wednesday with the meal made in our foods room.

We encourage all parents to engage their children in these enriching activities to ensure they make the most of their journey of transformation at Holy Cross College. Your support and involvement are invaluable in helping our students thrive and have life to the fullest.

Gospel Challenge

In  this weekend’s  Gospel from Luke, Jesus went into the desert.

He ate nothing for 40 days. The devil came and tried to tempt Jesus in every way, but Jesus chose not to give into sin.

Our challenge this week is inspired from the Hebrews 4:15  – “Our Lord is able to understand our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he did not sin”. Aim to resist the temptation to sin and do wrong.

I look forward to seeing many of our families at our Parish Mass this Sunday at 9.30am.

Kind regards
