Prayer
This weekend, many of our Year 4 students will be receiving the sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. In April this year, Pope Francis inaugurated the ‘School of Prayer’ for children preparing for their First Holy Communion. He encourages children to embrace their faith and turn to God in prayer, in the good times and the bad.
Lord Jesus,
Bless the children who will be going forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May it be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to You for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their eagerness to receive Your Body and Blood inspire all of us to cherish this Sacred Sacrament.
Amen
Dear Parents,
What a busy few weeks it has been!
The Junior School Production of the ‘Big Bad Musical; a Howling Courtroom Comedy’ was incredible! All shows were sold out and the students entertained their audiences with dancing, singing and acting that was well beyond their years. We were all so proud of their performances and the commitment to attend rehearsals over the last eight months. Thank you to Miss Oats and all the staff who supported our students.
The Junior school have been busy with the Inter-School Cross Country Carnival last week. Holy Cross College had four age champions and finished 9th overall. A huge improvement on previous years and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. Well-done to Mr Kerr and the staff involved. Later this term we have the Inter-house Athletics Carnival to look forward to.
The College has made a concerted effort over the last few years to gradually update our Pre K – Year 12 classroom furniture to provide the optimum learning experience for our students. Over the school holidays, we enclosed the Year Two classroom to ensure our Davinci Space and Year Two classroom could be utilised to its full potential. We also purchased new chairs for many of Middle & Senior School classrooms to better accommodate the existing furniture. Thank you to the Maintenance and Grounds team for their support in having the classrooms ready for the students. The College has plans to reinvigorate the furniture in our Paris & Lyon buildings in 2025/2026.
Don’t forget next week is Book Fair. I look forward to seeing all the students (and staff) in their costumes on Thursday 8 August to celebrate the 2024 theme of ‘Reading is Magic’.
Finally, our second Camino Day for 2024 is next week. Our Year 12 students will embark on the final leg of their 188km journey that begun for many students in 2019. It will be a wonderful celebration to welcome them into the Abbey at New Norcia on Friday afternoon.
Gospel Challenge
This week’s Gospel reading from John reveals Jesus describing himself as the ‘bread of life’. He meant that when we follow Him, we feed our souls for eternal life in Heaven. This is much more important than seeking out things that only satisfy us for a short time.
I encourage our students next week to live like Christ by not desiring things that cannot be sustained, as we always want more. Feed your souls by praying and listening to the words of the Gospels.
Kind regards
Mr Albert Borrello
Principal
